Pancake Bay boasts a nature trail where visitors can explore some of the park’s most interesting features up close.The beginning of this trail is located at the far west end of the campground next to the road to the Hilltop Campground. This is a good choice for those wanting a moderate hike with few hills.One section of the trail crosses a cedar swamp with a wide variety of wetland vegetation while another highlight is an enormous boulder that was carried from some distant place more than 10,000 years ago by receding glaciers.Walking shoes are recommended as the terrain is uneven and rocky. Educational signs posted along the trail will guide you in experiencing the natural features of this walk.While exploring the Boardwalk, stop, look and listen for many of the birds who call the fen home. Colourful wildflowers can be found throughout the trail for visitors to enjoy.Looking out into the bay will take you back in time to November 1975 as you imagine how big the waves were the night of the Edmund Fitzgerald sank.Parking is available at the trailhead.
